Parent questions

Answers for the busy back‑to‑school season.

As of the 2026–2027 school year, Florida House Bill 1607 requires that all high school students participating in school‑sanctioned sports receive an electrocardiogram (ECG) as part of their sports physical. The screening detects silent heart conditions that can cause cardiac events in young athletes. Premier performs the ECG in‑office during the same physical visit at no additional cost.
An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a quick, painless test that measures the electrical activity of the heart. Small sensors are placed on the skin to record the heart’s rhythm and detect any irregularities. The test takes about five minutes and requires no needles or preparation. For student athletes, it’s now required by Florida law as part of their sports physical to screen for hidden heart conditions that could pose a risk during intense physical activity.
We accept most major insurance plans including Medicaid, Florida KidCare, Aetna, Cigna, Humana, and BlueCross BlueShield. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, we also offer a sliding fee scale based on income — no child is turned away.
Most back‑to‑school visits take about 15-30 minutes, including the ECG and paperwork. Plan on 45 minutes if your child needs immunizations.
Insurance card or ID, your child’s current immunization record (blue card), and any school or sports forms that need to be signed. If you don’t have the forms yet, don’t worry — we keep the most common Pasco and Hernando district forms on hand.
All five Premier Pediatric locations: Zephyrhills Women’s & Pediatric Health Center, Dade City, New Port Richey, Hudson, and Spring Hill. The ECG machine is available at every location.
